The OTS 875002-001 Equalizing Pad is an individual replacement insert for the adjustable nose-block system used in the Ocean Technology Systems Guardian Full Face Mask. This standard-profile pad has a specified thickness of 0.16 inch and helps position the equalizing block correctly for the individual diver.

Because the Guardian is a full-face scuba mask, the diver cannot reach inside the mask and pinch the nose in the same manner as with a conventional dive mask. Instead, the Guardian uses a V-shaped equalizing block mounted inside the mask. The diver presses the mask toward the face, allowing the block to close the nostrils so the ears can be equalized during descent.

OTS designed the equalizing assembly with inserts of varying thicknesses so the block height can be adjusted for different facial dimensions. The correct configuration is determined more by the distance between the base of the nose and the bottom of the chin than by the overall size of the nose.

This 0.16-inch standard pad adds more spacing than the corresponding thinner standard pad. It may be appropriate when the equalizing block sits too low or cannot comfortably reach the diver’s nostrils with a thinner insert installed.

This item is different from the large-profile 0.16-inch pad, part 875004-001. The two parts should not be combined in inventory because they have different profiles and may fit the equalizing assembly differently.

Proper adjustment should allow the diver to breathe through the nose normally when the block is not being pressed. When equalizing, the block should close both nostrils without causing excessive pressure or discomfort. The diver should verify proper function before entering the water.
