Meet the experienced dive professionals behind Sink or Swim Scuba. Based in North Carolina and supporting teams nationwide, our staff provides recreational training, public safety dive support, and real-world operational experience rooted in safety, readiness, and long-term partnership.

Brent Clevenger is the owner of Sink or Swim Scuba and an SDI Elite Scuba Instructor with over two decades of experience training recreational divers and supporting public safety dive teams nationwide. His background in emergency services and law enforcement shapes a training philosophy focused on fundamentals, situational awareness, and repeatable performance in demanding conditions.

Duane Jenkins is an SDI Scuba Instructor at Sink or Swim Scuba known for his calm, approachable teaching style. He is an SDI Elite Instructor, advanced nitrox and cave-certified diver, and teaches First Response Training emergency care and oxygen administration classes through Sink or Swim Scuba.

Charlie Saunders is the Operations Manager and Divemaster at Sink or Swim Scuba in Gastonia, NC. He plays a critical role in daily operations and regularly supports ERDI training and real-world underwater vehicle recovery operations across the region.

BJ Juchter is a senior scuba instructor and master equipment technician with over 26 years of experience servicing life-support dive equipment. He teaches recreational and technical scuba courses and works with divers trained through SDI, TDI, PADI, and IANTD.

Barry Moore is one of the most experienced Divemasters at Sink or Swim Scuba, diving since 1978. He supports technical diving, public safety operations, diver training, and real-world recovery and underwater construction projects across North Carolina.

Lavy Clevenger is a certified Open Water diver and part of the Sink or Swim Scuba team, often in the shop on Fridays and Saturdays. A Cardiac Nurse Practitioner by profession, she brings a strong safety-focused perspective and a welcoming presence to the dive community.
