The OTS 875002-000 Equalizing Pad is an individual replacement insert for the adjustable nose-block system used in the Ocean Technology Systems Guardian Full Face Mask. This standard-profile pad has a specified thickness of 0.08 inch and helps position the equalizing block correctly for the individual diver.

Because the Guardian is a full-face scuba mask, the diver cannot reach inside the mask and pinch the nose as with a conventional dive mask. Instead, the Guardian uses an internal equalizing block. The diver presses the mask toward the face so the block closes the nostrils, allowing the ears to be equalized during descent.

OTS designed the equalizing assembly with removable inserts of varying thicknesses. Changing the insert alters the height and contact position of the equalizing block, helping accommodate differences in facial dimensions and the distance between the nose and chin.

The 0.08-inch standard pad adds less spacing than the standard 0.16-inch pad, part 875002-001. It may be appropriate when the thicker insert positions the equalizing block too close to the diver’s nose.

This item is also different from the large-profile 0.08-inch pad, part 875004-000. Even though both pads have the same thickness, their profiles differ and they should remain separate inventory items.

Proper adjustment should allow the diver to breathe normally through the nose when the block is not being pressed. During equalization, the block should close both nostrils without excessive pressure or discomfort. Fit and function should be verified before entering the water.
